We believe that no matter what country or physical circumstances they’re in, children deserve to know that they are loved and special – not only to the people around them, but to Jesus. They should have the opportunity to grow into the person they were created to be.
For too many children across Asia, that opportunity slips away before it ever begins. Poverty, fuelled by a lack of education, is a major cause – and it’s not only children who are affected. Worldwide, 775 million adults don’t have the most basic ability to read and write, and 64% of them are women.*
Meet Hafiz
He’s one of so many children in the communities we serve whose family lives very much on the fringe of society – excluded, in part, because of their position in society. There was no school in their village, or in any nearby village, so education has always been hard to come by. Their health has suffered too, without any safe, clean drinking water close to home – some days, that’s meant walking 4 or 5 kilometers just so her family could get water from another village that would share access.
Children like Hafiz are exactly why our projects exist across Asia – not as a single solution, but as a response shaped to what each community actually needs.
Where we work
China
Educational scholarships for children living in rural poverty are important, as are some programs for the children of rural migrant workers. We visit the children to support and mentor them. Learn more…
India
We’re providing a school, child development centres, women’s tailoring schools and safe water for villages – because for many children, education is the way out of poverty. Learn more…
Bali & NTT
We’re partnering to provide a safe home for young adults who’ve come to the city to gain an education, find employment, and be taught and mentored in leadership roles. Many come from extremely poor areas of NTT. We’re also helping children in urban slum villages through our Kids Clubs, where they can learn in a loving environment each afternoon. Learn more…
Sumatra
Another of our children’s projects is a home for twenty children on this idyllic island – children who came from a neighbouring island devastated by an earthquake years ago, in communities still struggling to recover. With limited employment and few opportunities for education, families face ongoing hardship.
In this loving, small home, the children are cared for well, receiving an education and preparing for a better future. Learn more
Many children growing up in the shadow of abandonment feel forgotten. We work hard to make sure that’s not the feeling of any child in the Heart for Kids family. We want them to have hope for their future, and to know they can rise above their beginnings – that people value them, and are there to help. More
